Student Safety

Advice
Australia is a safe country, but crime does happen. Recently a number of students have become victims of violent street crime in Melbourne. It is important that all students take steps to avoid becoming a target of these criminals.
Below are some simple tips to ensure your safety as Students provided by ACUNSA and the local Student Associations. If at any time you need to discuss issues relating to your safety or welfare, please contact us.
Avoid Walking Home Alone Late at Night
Most street criminals seek weak looking targets, so safety is in numbers. If you are using public transport, arrange to be picked up from where you stop.
Try avoid taking the train after 9pm
If you can't, travel in the front carriage and arrange to be picked up from where you get off
Hide your valuables
Thieves obviously look for things they want to steal , so making them less visible is always helpful
If you fear your immediate safety or have been attacked, call the Police
This is important for both protecting yourself and others. Police will need whatever help you can give them to find these criminals. Police in Australia are very good; there is no reason to be scared of dealing with them. The number to contact police and other emergency services is 000 (free call across Australia)
Safety on campus
ACU National has its own security on each campus. If at any time you feel remotely unsafe on campus, call them.
